From here to there...

I’m pretty sure that people I went to high school or even some of college with are surprised to see me own a Christian fine arts school. To be honest, I’m surprised myself! I was not what you would call the ideal role model during those years of my life. Actually, my senior year of high school when someone tried to read a piece of the Bible to me, I not so politely let them know that I led a better life than them and didn’t need any of what they were selling. Thank God for multiple chances!
Fast forward a few years later, I was very good at going to church on Sunday, but doing whatever I wanted with the rest of my time. Yet, I was drowning. I knew something was missing. At the age of 21, some friends invited me to a play at a church. It was around the time of the Columbine school shooting and the play was based around the topic. One of the students was good in school and with people, but had no relationship with God. That character was me. That night, I made a decision to not just know God existed, but to let Him lead my life. I started reading my Bible for myself and got involved in a local church. Within six months, I had met my husband at church and we were married. It was definitely a whirlwind time in my life.
Yet, God took all the years I trained in dance and my husband’s music background to form Soar. Don’t put us under a microscope because you will find imperfect people that God chooses to use. We are sinners, just saved by His grace.
I share this piece of my story for multiple reasons:
1. For those in my past, thank goodness God is still in the business of changing people.
2. For our Soar families, it doesn’t matter what denomination church you go to. We want to partner with you to point you and your families toward Christ. Our goal is to see people using their gifts for Him.
3. For those that don’t understand words that I used like “saved” and “grace,” I want to first kindly recommend that you start reading the Bible like I did. I recommend a NKJV Bible because it is easy to read. I started in Matthew. Also, if you want someone to talk with about it, I would be glad too.
Let me also say Soar is not a church. We can’t take the place of a church. We are simply another resource to come along side you to provide a Christian fine arts education. We are looking forward to Saturday’s registration.
