Competition Team Information

What will be accessed at auditions:
Flexibility (splits, extensions, etc.)
Technique (turn out, battements, turns, and leaps)
Ability to pick up age appropriate choreography
Personality in performance

What to wear to auditions:
Tan tights; jazz shoes; black leotard; hot shorts or leggings, hair pulled back

What is the time commitment:
Your child will be at the studio regularly two afternoons per week. If they perform a solo, duo, or trio, they will have additional rehearsals. They must have at least one year of competition experience before they can do a specialty dance.  Before each competition, there will be a Saturday rehearsal too. They will also be required to participate in one out of town convention and three competitions. This may increase in upcoming years. There is also a mandatory summer mini camp. This is a pre-professional program, so please be prepared to take on the time it requires. Consistent absences could result in dismissal from the team.

Notes: Monthly tuition is $105 for the base classes (ballet, tap, progressions, stretch and strength, and choreography).
Each company costume is $95 and each recital costume is $85. Conventions range from $150 to $200. Competition fees depend on how many numbers you are in.

Also you need to consider your hotel cost and expenses while traveling.

Late payment policy: If a student falls a month behind in payments, they will not be allowed to take class. Also, if convention and competition fees are not paid on time, they will not be registered. This could negatively affect their group dances. Consistent problems with payment can result in dismissal from the team.
How many dances will your child be in: One or two competition numbers and two additional recital pieces. This will be discussed more once the team is selected.  Some students that have been on the team for at least a year may be selected for an optional solo, duo, or trio.

How will I find out if my child is selected: By 4 p.m. the Wednesday after auditions, you will receive an email. I highly recommend the parent checking and then informing the student.

After addressing all of this, I would like to say that being part of a dance competition team has many rewards. Your child will learn discipline, how to work with a team, how to perform in front of an audience, and the gratifying feeling of working hard to accomplish their goals. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at ashley@soarcreativearts.com.
