2026 Competition

We are interested in competition! What should we do next?

We are currently in the middle of our competition season! We have 37 beautiful dancers that compete in our regular competition team and on our hip hop crews this year. However, we are already setting our eyes on next year's teams too.
Do you have a child that dances everywhere she goes? Do you think she would benefit from additional training? Here are the steps that are recommended for those considering auditioning for next year's teams.
- Sign your child up for our Competition Training Camp. This is being held on Saturday, Feb. 28th. Miss Hope, our assistant competition director, leads the students in the skills that we look for at auditions. She also teaches a small combo to help them learn how to pick up choreography quickly. - Attend the parent information meeting on Wednesday, March 18th at 5 p.m. Mrs. Ashley will discuss the training and organization of all the teams. Time and financial commitments will be discussed also.
- If auditioning for the team, you only need to schedule a registration appointment if you are taking summer classes or fall art classes. If your child does not make the team, they are guaranteed a spot in our recreational dance class.
- Auditions are on Saturday, June 20th. Head over to our competition website page to learn more. https://www.soarcreativearts.com/company
Here are a few things to consider with auditioning:
- Your student should have some dance training before auditioning. This program is meant to challenge dancers and increase their ability, but they should already have had lessons in the style they are auditioning for.
- Not everyone makes the team. The older the student is, the harder it is to make it because they have to blend with our experienced dancers.
- Placement on teams is only slightly dependent on age. The biggest component in placement is their ability. This means that younger students may be on higher teams than an older student that doesn't have the same skills.
- Being on the team is a commitment. There are attendance requirements. Students who are enrolled in many things (school extracurricular activities, cheer teams, dance teams) need to look to see if these will conflict before auditioning.
- Competition training is hard work. Students are expected to work on it outside of the studio.
- If you would like to discuss my (Mrs. Ashley's) thoughts on your child auditioning, please send me an email at ashley@soarcreativearts.com. I would be glad to tell you what I view as your child's strengths, where they need to work, and things they can do to improve.
Competition teams can be a great place for your child to grow! We strive to create an environment that both challenges and encourages our students! We hope to see you soon as you learn more about Soar's competition program!
